I joined the Graduate in Training Program (GIT) in 2014 and it was an opportunity for me to start my professional career at Coca-Cola Beverages Africa as one of the most successful and recognizable brands where I have progressed. The program offered rotational assignments in various departments within the organization; Production, Sales, Warehousing and Distribution. This resulted in gaining extensive industry knowledge that would have taken years to acquire within such a short time. We were also able to experiment with projects after each stint some of which have been adopted into standard operating procedures (SOPs) within the organization.
Life at Coca–Cola Beverages Africa is challenging, rewarding and engaging, there’s good synergy between work culture and productivity. The culture of the organization is fast-paced with daily targets and measures, where every second count. My advice to the Graduates wishing to join the Emerging Future Leaders program is to just do it, take action. Do not wait for the perfect time or perfect opportunity. Winning at anything is more about behavior than knowledge. What to do is not the problem; doing it is. Most of us know what to do, but we just don’t do it, therefore each day we have to set routines and actions that take us closer to our goals and within no time those small actions/baby-steps will add up to a transformed self.
I Joined Coca-Cola Beverages Africa as a Graduate in the Graduate in Training Program (GIT) in June 2012. My program highlight was the Procurement Academy, this was instrumental for equipping me with knowhow to be effective in my work in Procurement and the Bottler Forum – conducted by Conco Limited in Eswatini where representatives from all Bottler’s in Africa are taken through a workshop to align on Concentrate Supplies and Logistics.
The company has been my employer to date. This has been a great opportunity for growth in my career and in my private life as well. I have worked in Procurement handling different Procurement sections and my key highlights have been in handling Raw and Packaging Materials where I had the opportunity to interact not only with Internal Stakeholders but also Group Procurement, Coca-Cola Technical teams. I have had the opportunity to organize and coordinate Supplier visits and have a feel how other manufacturing plants are run to avail the materials we buy.
My advice to the Graduates wishing to join the Emerging Future Leaders program is to be open to learn, interact and give 100%.
I look back at the time when I joined Coca-Cola Beverages Africa in 2014 as a Graduate in the Graduate in Training Program (GIT) and where I am today as a Distributions Expeditor. It has been a beautiful journey through my 5 years in the company. I have gained a lot of managerial experience through learning and my work experience. Personally I have attended a number of trainings just to mention a few; The Leadership Development Program, Coaching, and Mentorship Program. These trainings have elevated my managerial skills making me a better leader.
One unique thing about Coca-Cola Beverages Africa is the caring culture which is based on the sense of community, mindfulness and promoting wellness. I highly recommend Graduates out there to work for Coca-Cola Beverages Africa and will still do in the future. My advice to those who wish to join is to focus and have an end in mind after the training period. Secondly, find a coach or mentor who will guide you through the program and assist in a smooth transition in the company’s culture. Thirdly, train and learn as much as you can. You shall never age because you over learned. “Wisdom comes not from age, but from education and learning.” Anton Chekhov
I joined the business in 2014 as a Graduate in Training (GIT) Program under Warehousing. Placement at the Warehouse gave me the opportunity for hands-on experience in Warehouse Operations, Stock Management, and teamwork. It is during this period that l also had exposure on Operational Excellence when I was involved in Logistics Improvement Projects. During the training period, I developed my analytical skills, business acumen, operational excellence, and business performance reporting. My recent appointment was to the role of the Logistics Development Specialist with a key mandate to fast track implementation of Supply Chain Way Strategy within Logistics.
I enjoy training, coaching, and evaluation of team progress. One of my goals is to see everyone empowered to do their job and embrace lean working practices with a positive trend on KPIs.
I have had a wonderful journey at Coca-Cola Beverages Africa through the various stages of development, both professional and personal. I joined the company in 2010 through the Graduate in Training (GIT) program as a Trainee then later took up various roles in Maintenance planning and Projects from 2011 through to the end of 2012. I have also worked in PET lines and Glass lines until I assumed the role of Plant Engineer mid of 2018. The Graduate in Training (GIT) Program enabled me to have business exposure and got to see the business through the eyes of each department and how they build into the business strategy. The training program also made me acquire technical and leadership skills and made me be self-aware and have personal mastery.
Over the years, the various roles and development programs that I have been exposed to have greatly contributed to my professional and personal growth and have also given me a chance to exercise the expertise, knowledge, and skills gained through the years of service as well as demonstrate new abilities. The journey has taught me the value of small disciplines, that if repeated with consistency every day, will result in great achievements gained over time.
My advice to future Graduates is to be open to learn and continuously improve.
I joined Coca-Cola Beverages in 2012 as a Graduate in Training (GIT) Program. The program was well structured in that the individual gets exposure to the total business in one year. My best experience was the one month we were in trade selling products. What I also enjoyed while in the program, was the coaching I got from my supervisor who was then the Continuous Improvement Manager and the support from the other supervisors whom we were attached to during the rotational departmental exposure. During the program, we also underwent a couple of trainings which really positively impacted my behavior like presenting with confidence and operational excellence (problem-solving). During the onboarding period, we also had monthly check-in sessions where we discussed the challenges and what is working.
The Emerging Future Leaders program is the best platform to kick start a fulfilling career at Coca-Cola Beverages Africa and to grow to leadership roles. With the right attitude and passion to learn, one can quickly move up to the leadership roles.
As a graduate, it was being empowered to be my best through others since I was learning through people’s experiences but now as a manager, it is about empowering others to be the best. At Coca-Cola Beverages Africa l learned that we are either selling or helping to sell.
I joined Coca-Cola Beverages Africa in 2010 when it was still referred to as Coca-Cola SABCO. I was in the Graduate in Training (GIT) Program for one year. Every day I spent as a Graduate in Training (GIT) Program was about 3 things: connecting, understanding and learning.
During the training period, I was in Engineering before moving into Continuous Improvement. Here, I led both the Operational Excellence Program and the Total Productive Maintenance Programs, both of which were responsible for delivering savings in excess of $500,000 into the P&L at that time. In 2013, I worked on a Supply Chain project that transformed the face of Glass Operations at NBL. Out of this, I was appointed the Planning Manager, where my first job was to rebuild a team. I did this successfully, and I have been part of Planning ever since. In 2016-2017 I was part of the Integration Team that successfully got Keringet into part of the CCBA portfolio. In 2018-2019, the same was repeated for Equator Bottlers, with my role being oversight of the SAP Production Planning Module and setting up the Sales & Operations Planning process set-up in those businesses. With the integration of Almasi Beverages recently, my role is to ensure that our network capacity allows us to extract the most value from production and primary distribution of the newly acquired depots and production sites along with the current ones. An integral part of my role, in addition, is establishing business requirements on Returnable Packaging Investment which runs into about USD$5 Million annually.
Today, I still do the same thing, the difference is that I get to see first-hand how my decisions impact the business with a heightened sense of accountability. I enjoy being multi-faceted, being able to solve problems across many areas, and working closely with people across Finance, HR, Manufacturing, Sales & Logistics as a business and not necessarily a functional expert. This means that I am constantly having to rethink what I know, and why we do what we do, and because of this, my team and I keep evolving with the needs of the business. I embrace and enjoy this kind of change. It keeps me uplifted. Because we are in a VUCA environment, I embrace challenges as a way to demonstrate our agility in making sure we deliver to our customers and therefore improving our business every day.
I joined Coca-Cola Beverages Africa Graduate in Training(GIT) Program on 3rd March 2014. As part of the program, I was trained on both the Operational (Entire Supply Chain and Commercial) and Administrative (Support Functions) side of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa before being attached to the Central Planning function. It is in Planning where I established my footing in the business and I transitioned from a Graduate in Training(GIT) Program and through the years I have worked in various roles until my most recent appointment in October 2019 as a Logistics Manager in charge of Nakuru (NBL Depot and Crown Beverages). I have really enjoyed my journey in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa for the last five years and nine months and I look forward to the auspicious future ahead.
My role covers Warehousing (receipt and storage of high quality finished goods), Distribution (delivering the goods to our customers) and Customer Service (ensuring feedback and continuously improving service delivery) as well as ensuring the company assets are protected and well utilized. Most importantly my role focuses on ensuring we have a highly motivated, focused and efficient workforce in order to deliver value to the shareholders. I enjoy my current job in multiple dimensions; the Logistics team and a new challenge every day.
My advice to the Graduates wishing to join the Emerging Future Leaders program is to keep learning and to continue adapting in order to evolve. Charles Darwin said, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives it is the one that is most adaptable to change.”
I joined Coca-Cola Beverages Africa in 2012 as a Graduate in Training(GIT) Program. The training program was an amazing experience. It gave me a detailed insight into each department within the organization. It was like a relay race and teamwork was of the essence. It also taught me why everyone is important to the Supply Chain and what the end goal was. According to Miller Heiman “91% of the top-performing sales organizations collaborate across all departments to close big deals”. Six weeks after, I was formally introduced to the Sales and Marketing profession where I discovered my passion.
Coca-Cola Beverages Africa invests in its people when it comes to development opportunities. I joined Coca-Cola Beverages Africa as a Graduate in Training(GIT) Program, and currently, I am the Key Accounts Manager in charge of Convenience Retail. This would not have happened without the amazing training programs, guidance mentorship and coaching that I received from my leaders.
