BasiGo is an early-stage e-mobility start-up working to create the future of clean, electric, and digitally-powered public transport in sub-Saharan Africa. BasiGo provides bus operators with a cost-effective electric alternative to existing diesel buses, along with reliable charging and maintenance services in support of their bus operations. BasiGo Rwanda is looking for a data expert to collect, analyze and report data on the performance of BasiGo’s electric buses as well as existing diesel bus fleets operating in Rwanda, and help build prediction systems and ML algorithms.

Our ideal candidate would have: 

Required Qualifications: 

• 2+ years proven work experience as a data analyst/scientist in the automotive / public transport or related industries. 
• BSc in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or any related fields. ○ Strong technical capabilities in Python, SQL, R or MS Excel. 
• Experience with data visualisation tools 
• Experience with modelling and analyzing GIS data. 
• Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
• Ability to perform independent data collection in the field. 
• You have demonstrated an ability to learn continuously, work autonomously, and make decisions. 

Skills and Attitude 

• Demonstrated ability to independently define, manage and execute technical projects.
• You are comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment with dynamic objectives.
• Strong technical communication skills in order to properly communicate complex insights into frameworks for engineering and management decision-making.

Responsibilities 

• Analyze Electric Bus performance using CAN bus data broadcasted from the vehicle’s telematics devices. 
• Generate reports on the vehicle performance for different audiences 
• Doing ad-hoc business data analysis and presenting results in a clear manner 
• Analyze data on existing bus operations to provide insights on potential charging infrastructure sites. 
• Developing prediction systems and machine learning algorithms 
• Using machine learning tools to select features, create and optimize classifiers in BasiGo Business Data and related industry data 
• Validation of existing GTFS / Route datasets. 
• Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis 
• Using statistical tools to identify, analyze, and interpret patterns and trends in bus industry data sets.
• Develop and maintain datasets using relevant databases and cloud technologies.
• Performing analysis to assess the quality and meaning of data. 
• Supporting the Engineering and Operations Teams to devise data management and governance strategies. 
• Conduct Research and Data Collection on Bus Operations in Rwanda including but not limited to bus types; bus frequencies; occupancy rates peak and off-peak; bus fares; passenger culture; bus operators; operational costs; revenue generation. 
• Analyzing local, national, and global trends that impact both BasiGo Operations and the PSV industry. 
• Conduct surveys on relevant stakeholders to understand their preferences and requirements regarding bus operations. 
• Developing analytics to identify trend lines across several data sources within BasiGo. Creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance 
• Any other reasonable duties as may be assigned.
