Mastercard Foundation Associates Program

Locations: East Africa, Francophone West Africa

Shortlist was selected as the East African placement partner for Mastercard Foundation’s Associates Program, placing 220+ young professionals in jobs with employers in East Africa for 12 months. Associates upskilling during their placement period as well as career guidance and outplacement support. This program offers valuable work experience for those starting their careers or transitioning industries, while employers benefit from vetted, subsidized talent, reducing hiring risks. The program aims to drive job creation and dignified and fulfilling employment of entry level professionals across Africa.

Energy Access Talent Initiative (EATI)

Locations: Sub-Saharan Africa

The Energy Access Talent Initiative is a multi-year youth employment program that will hire 800 youth for clean energy companies across the African continent. The program is run by Shortlist, in partnership with African Management Institute (AMI), and is funded with UK aid from the UK government via the Transforming Energy Access (TEA) programme. EATI builds off the success of TEA’s Off Grid Talent Initiative (OGTI) - improving the lives of nearly 900 young people in over 100 energy companies across 23 African countries with entry level placements and mid-management development.

Accelerating the Rise of Cloudwork in Kenya

Locations: Kenya

Through the support of the Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE), Shortlist is creating and improving over 8,500 jobs for youth in early career digital work in Kenya. This project also offers a zero interest device lending facility for youth, addressing two of the largest systemic bottlenecks that are limiting job creation in the cloudwork sector: access to finance to afford a basic laptop or smartphone, and county-based partnerships to provide office space and internet access.

Africa Oxford Ubuntu Transitions

Locations: Across Africa

The Africa Oxford Ubuntu Transitions program helps African scholars transition back to the continent to work full-time with local companies. Ubuntu Transitions offers African Oxford graduates a chance to develop their careers by turning their passions into meaningful actions. Shortlist will connect graduates with leading employers across the continent to maximize experiential learning and the impact of their professional contributions. Projects and activities include launching start-ups, working in corporates, multinational development agencies, governments, NGOs and research institutions.

Women for Green Jobs

Locations: Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Uganda

Shortlist partnered with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and Value for Women to improve the representation and success of women in African energy access. In total, the program created 750+ green jobs for women across seven countries in an effort to increase gender equity in the clean energy sector in Africa.

The Off-Grid Talent Initiative (OGTI)

Locations: 10 countries across Africa

Shortlist successfully completed the Off-Grid Talent Initiative, in partnership with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Carbon Trust, in partnership with AMI. At the conclusion of the program, Shortlist exceeded hiring targets by placing over 400 young professionals (52% women) into entry-level, career track opportunities in the energy access sector across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Microsoft Interns 4 Afrika

Locations: Global

Microsoft’s Interns4Afrika program offered graduates a chance to grow their careers through internship placements and virtual training in Microsoft partner organisations. Shortlist screened over 30,000 candidates from across the globe, and ultimately placed 250 interns with Microsoft partner organizations across 20+ countries in Africa and the Middle East.

KPMG Graduate Recruitment

Locations: Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania

Each year, KPMG recruits promising young professionals across their advisory business lines. From 2017-2019, Shortlist supported KPMG’s graduate recruitment efforts across East Africa. In total, Shortlist screened over 45,000 applicants to find the top 1% of all candidates for selection, placing hundreds of recent graduates into entry-level roles.

The Andela Talent Marketplace

Locations: Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda

The Andela Learning Community (ALC) is an initiative from Andela offering online learning opportunities, guided mentorship, and skills-based projects to both early-stage technologists and experienced developers. Shortlist partnered to adapt our tech platform to power the Andela Talent Marketplace to connect employers in Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda with top ALC graduates and Andela Alumni.

Kenya Small Business Leaders Program

Locations: Kenya

Shortlist partnered with Women Work and the UK Kenya Tech Hub to design and implement the Kenya Small Business Leaders Program. Shortlist screened hundreds of subject matter experts to identify and match 15 experts with tech-enabled small businesses for 3-month paid secondments, designed to help local businesses get the support needed to grow and unlock potential.

Coca Cola Kwanza’s Graduate in Training (GIT) Program

Locations: Tanzania

Shortlist developed and led recruitment for Coca-Cola Kwanza’s Graduate in Training (GIT) Program. The one year program is an accelerated development program that gives young professionals a taste of life at Coca-Cola Kwanza. Shortlist screened over 4,000 candidates and shortlisted 80 candidates for the program.

CCBA’s Emerging Future Leaders Program

Locations: Kenya

The Coca-Cola Bottlers Association (CCBA) Kenya Emerging Future Leaders Development Program is a two year program is an accelerated development program that provides those selected with excellent opportunities for career progression. In 2020, Shortlist screened over 13,000 applicants and presented the top 125 candidates for CCBA to select for the program.

LGT Impact Fellowship

Locations: Global

The LGT Impact Fellowship was established in 2009 by LGT Venture Philanthropy’s and LGT Lightstone to provide additional know-how and capacity to its portfolio organizations. Shortlist provided support for two years of fellowship recruitment, reviewing and screening over 4,400 business professionals globally to identify placements into LGT’s portfolio organizations around the world.

The Finish Government’s Talent Boost Programme focuses on bringing international skilled talent to sectors with high demand for human capital. Shortlist was a lead partner for the program in India, helping 20+ FInnish tech and gaming companies identify and screen Indian professionals for relocation to Finland for full-time tech jobs.

Shortlist was Business Finland’s technology partner for the Fast Track Recruitment program in 2021. Through this program, Shortlist screened and selected top American tech talent for employment opportunities with Finnish tech and gaming companies.

The Chief Minister’s Good Governance Associates Programme (CMGGA)

Locations: India

Shortlist reviewed over 6,000 applicants and helped CMGGA select 25 young individuals placed across 22 districts of Haryana. Their yearlong placements were focused on bringing about societal changes on ground while gaining considerable training and exposure.

Child Rights Fellowship (CRF)

Locations: India

Shortlist supported The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights and Ashoka University, reviewing and screening 10,000+ profiles to identify the top 1% of applicants.The fellows made a landmark achievement in reforming the lives of children in Delhi across education, health, and juvenile justice.
