About GOGLA
GOGLA is the global association for the off-grid solar energy industry. Its 200+ members provide millions of low-income and climate-vulnerable people with affordable, high-quality, products and services, rapidly increasing productivity, connectivity and resilience in over 130 countries.
GOGLA promotes, safeguards and convenes the off-grid solar industry. Since its founding in 2012, GOGLA has established itself as the undisputed voice of the industry with consistently high rates of member satisfaction. It has built effective channels for communication with 28+ governments and strong partnerships with leading development partners; it collects and publishes unique market insights; it creates global industry standards around e.g. consumer protection and industry transparency; it convenes industry-leading events. GOGLA’s work impacts industry-level change as well as everyday people. 104 million people currently benefit from access to solar energy kits and 2.7 million people use their off-grid system to support an enterprise. In the past decade, 98 million metric tons of CO2e have been avoided through the sale of off-grid solar solutions by affiliate companies. During this time, GOGLA’s team has grown to 28 staff members in 6 countries, with a budget of around EUR 3m/year.
With GOGLA’s support, the industry today has already reached 490m people with off-grid solar products; to do so it attracted over USD 3b of investment. GOGLA’s strategy is aimed at powering 1 billion lives by 2030. This includes supporting the sector to reach 550 million people with first-time energy access; improving energy services for millions more; and enabling farmers and small businesses to improve their livelihoods and resilience through the productive use of off-grid technologies. This calls for increases in GOGLA’s team and resources over the next few years, as well as a stronger focus on advocacy on behalf of the industry beyond the current sphere of influence.
