Global Energy Alliance for People & Planet - Women for Green Jobs LIVE

Locations: Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Uganda.

Shortlist is working with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and Value for Women to improve the representation and success of women in African energy access. The program will create 750 green jobs for women across six countries: Nigeria, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Malawi. Shortlist and Value for Women will also collaborate on working with organizations to improve their gender equity policies and practices and share research to drive greater equity across the energy value chain in Africa.

Accelerating the Rise of Cloud Work in Kenya LIVE

Locations: Kenya.

Shortlist has launched a three-year program to place 5,000 youth into entry-level jobs in the ICT and “data labeling” sector – with at least 60% of these youth expected to be female. The program “Accelerating the Rise of the Cloud Work Industry in Kenya” is in partnership with CloudFactory and Africa AI and with funding from the Dutch Government’s Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE).

This program will focus in particular on the rise of “data labeling” as a driver of job creation for Kenyan youth, unblocking current bottlenecks around awareness, training, and infrastructure access (e.g., laptop financing). Estimates suggest that the data labeling industry will grow at an annual rate of nearly 25% over the next five years, representing an opportunity for tens of thousands of Kenyans to enter into formal sector employment.

Locations: 26 countries across Africa.

The Energy Access Talent Initiative is a multi-year youth employment program that will hire 800 youth for clean energy companies across the African continent. The program is run by Shortlist, funded with UK aid from the UK government via the Transforming Energy Access (TEA) programme.

EATI builds off the success of TEA’s Off Grid Talent Initiative (OGTI) - improving the lives of nearly 900 young people in over 100 energy companies across 23 African countries with entry level placements and mid-management development - which clearly demonstrated the demand for quality talent solutions that address the needs of the energy access sector. The shift from the “Off Grid Talent Initiative” to the “Energy Access Talent Initiative” represents the effort to build a strong, diverse workforce of talented young people to help expand affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, regardless of on- versus off-grid approaches.

Shortlist successfully completed the Off-Grid Talent Initiative, in partnership with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO),the Carbon Trust to lead its upcoming program, and implementing partner AMI. Shortlist placed young professionals into entry-level career track opportunities in the energy access sector across Sub-Saharan Africa over two years, and worked with AMI to support managerial training programs.

We used our technology platform and competency-based assessment model to deliver an objective recruitment process that promoted diversity, with a special focus on attracting female jobseekers into the energy sector.

At the conclusion of the program, Shortlist exceeded targets by making over 400 placements, 52% of which went to women.

Microsoft Interns4Afrika

Locations: Pan-Africa & Middle East

Microsoft’s Interns4Afrika program offered graduates a chance to grow their careers through internship placements and virtual training in Microsoft partner organisations. For six months, selected interns worked in a real company and on real projects either in sales, marketing or technology while collaborating and learning from their colleagues. Graduates also got the opportunity to become Microsoft certified.

Shortlist screened over 30,000 candidates from across the globe, and ultimately placed 250 interns with Microsoft partner organizations across 20+ countries in Africa and the Middle East.

KPMG Graduate Recruitment

Locations: Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania

Each year, KPMG recruits promising young professionals across their advisory business lines. KPMG’s recruitment process identifies high potential young professionals to work at the cutting edge of business and assist leading companies tackling real-world challenges.

From 2017-2019, Shortlist supported KPMG’s graduate recruitment efforts across East Africa. In total, Shortlist screened over 45,000 applicants to find the top 1% of all candidates for selection, placing hundreds of recent graduates into entry-level roles across the region.

The Andela Talent Marketplace

Locations: Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda.

The Andela Learning Community (ALC) is an initiative from Andela offering online learning opportunities, guided mentorship, and skills-based projects to both early-stage technologists and experienced developers. In partnership with Google, Facebook and Microsoft, ALC has enrolled more than 60,000 learners across Africa.

Shortlist partnered to adapt our tech platform to power the Andela Talent Marketplace to connect employers in Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda with top ALC graduates and Andela Alumni who fit their specifications for entry-level developer and other technical roles.

Locations: Kenya.

Shortlist partnered with Women Work and the UK Kenya Tech Hub to design and implement the Kenya Small Business Leaders Program. Through the program, Shortlist screened hundreds of subject matter experts to identify and match 15 experts with tech-enabled small businesses for paid secondments over 3 months, designed to help local businesses get the support needed to grow and unlock potential.

Coca Cola Kwanza’s Graduate in Training (GIT) Program

Locations: Tanzania

Shortlist developed and led recruitment for Coca-Cola Kwanza’s Graduate in Training (GIT) Program. The one year program is an accelerated development program that gives young professionals a taste of life at Coca-Cola Kwanza.

The program develops world class leaders through functional and cross functional rotation, challenging assignments, business projects, integrated training and development, and formal coaching and mentoring programs.

Shortlist screened over 4,000 candidates and shortlisted 80 candidates for the program.

CCBA’s Emerging Future Leaders Program

Locations: Kenya

The Coca-Cola Bottlers Association (CCBA) Kenya Emerging Future Leaders Development Program is a two year accelerated development program. The program includes courses designed to enable high-potential young professionals to learn the trade, broaden their business understanding and acquire foundational functional skills.

In 2020, Shortlist screened over 13,000 applicants and presented the top 125 candidates to CCBA for final selection.

LGT Impact Fellowship

Locations: Global.

As part of LGT Venture Philanthropy’s and LGT Lightstone’s strategic efforts to scale positive impact, the LGT Impact Fellowship was established in 2009 to provide additional know-how and capacity to its portfolio organizations. Each year a limited number of professionals are nominated to work full-time for one year with impactful organizations supported by LGT Venture Philanthropy and LGT Lightstone in Latin America, Africa, India and Europe.

Shortlist provided support to LGT for two years of fellowship recruitment, reviewing and screening over 4,400 business professionals globally to identify placements into LGT’s portfolio organizations around the world.

The Talent Boost Programme, launched by the Government of Finland, focuses on bringing international skilled talent to sectors that have a high demand for human capital. This programme is set up with the goal that international talent will contribute to higher employment in Finland, foster quality, internationalisation and diversity in higher education institutions, drive the growth of companies and R&D activities, and promote foreign investment in Finland.

Shortlist was a lead partner for the Talent Boost Programme in India, helping 20+ FInnish tech and gaming companies identify and screen 100s of Indian professionals for relocation to Finland for full-time tech jobs.

Shortlist was Business Finland’s technology partner for the Fast Track Recruitment program 2021. This program helps make immigration and transition to Finland as smooth and efficient as possible. If hired by a company participating in the program, the Finnish Immigration Service processes a work permit within two weeks’ time, bringing talent to Finland via Fast Track.

Through this program, Shortlist screened and selected top American tech talent for employment opportunities with Finnish tech and gaming companies.

The Chief Minister’s Good Governance Associates Programme (CMGGA)

Locations: India

The Chief Minister’s Good Governance Associates is a one-year experiential learning programme offered by Ashoka University and Government of Haryana. Adopting a field-and-forum approach, the Associates work in the districts for seven weeks and then gather at Ashoka University for a week-long cross-learning forum to discuss challenges, synthesize learnings, and ideate to work more efficiently.

Shortlist reviewed over 6,000 applicants and helped CMGGA select 25 young individuals placed across 22 districts of Haryana to bring about societal changes on ground while gaining training and exposure.

Child Rights Fellowship (CRF)

Locations: India

The Child Rights Fellowship is a strategic collaboration between The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) amd Ashoka University, enabling young professionals to work on child rights reforms, policy implementation and government stakeholder engagement.

Shortlist has supported DCPCR and Ashoka since the fellowship was launched in 2021, reviewing and screening over 10,000 profiles to identify the top 1% of applicants. In the first year of the fellowship, the fellows made a landmark achievement in reforming the lives of children in Delhi across education, health, and juvenile justice.
