Talent Analyst at Shortlist

Shortlister Spotlight: Meet Apoorva Kanotra, Talent Analyst

1824 2290 Shortlist

In this instalment of Shortlister Spotlights (a Q&A series to get to know some of our team members) meet Apoorva Kanotra, Talent Analyst from Mumbai office!

At Shortlist, we love building our team almost as much as we love building yours!

We have some pretty amazing people across our three offices who have a real passion for what they do and for the Shortlist mission.

Read on to know more about Apoorva’s Shortlist journey!

So, Apoorva. Tell us about your life at Shortlist.

Life at Shortlist is pretty exciting! 😀Even though it’s only been six months for me, it feels that I have been here for much longer. From what my role as a Talent Analyst was initially to what it is now there has been a drastic growth in terms of scope, responsibilities and business management.

In a short time, I have picked up a wide range of skills that have helped me at work and in my personal life as well. My team is pretty awesome too – super helpful and super fun 🤘🏽. There is never a dull moment! And my coffee-making ☕ skills have certainly improved, of which I am extremely proud.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Believe it or not, I wanted to be a veterinary doctor when I was ten. I have always loved animals, and I had more pets than human friends as a child. In fifth grade, I seriously considered pursuing veterinary science or getting a PhD. I had a full plan chalked out until I realized how scared I was of blood and the slightest sight of it 😅. Seems silly but it renders me paralyzed. Then in high school, I realized I had different professional inclinations and strengths, so I decided to explore and develop them seriously.

While I couldn’t go through with my previous academic plan, I try to volunteer at local animal shelters as often as I can. I feel that if I can convince even one person to take up the “Adopt, don’t shop” mantra, I’ve done some genuine good.

What is your professional background, and what were you looking for in your next career step when you found Shortlist?

I completed my graduation from Narsee Monjee in Mumbai majoring in Finance. However, I was always inclined towards talent management and organizational development. After working for about a year, I came across an opportunity at Shortlist through my professional network. I met Zoyeb, Lotika and the rest of the team at one of Shortlist’s events and eventually interviewed for the Talent Analyst position. Through the process, I realized how much I could resonate with the mission, and the challenges Shortlist was addressing in the recruitment industry. And after using the platform as a candidate myself, I was sold on the idea! 😀

How has your current role impacted you?

I have become more patient and empathetic. In this role as a Talent analyst, I feel I am now better equipped in handling different stakeholders although I would say it’s still a work in progress:) My people management skills, however, have undergone a serious makeover. When I was younger, I used to believe that I was a good listener. I used to take it for granted but not anymore – there is always room for improvement.

I have also come to realize the work that needs to be put in to build and scale an organization. It’s vital to have a good team by your side and the impact that can have on a macro level.

Tell us about a candidate that inspired you.

I remember this one time when I spoke to a candidate for a Program Manager role. He was quite an eminent personality in his professional circle with about two decades of experience. What struck me was his humility and the work that he was still doing at the grass-root level to create an impact in his community. He was one inspiring candidate I encountered.

What’s your professional superpower?

I suppose punctuality would be one. And I try to incorporate this little piece of discipline in my personal life as well.

Apoorva indulging her love for new places at Hampi

What’s your favourite Shortlist memory?

I love the periodical team meetings we have called the “Pulse Check”. It’s the time when our team comes together and talks about their work in general, what they are happy or excited about and the challenges they are facing. Also what they would like to do more together as a team and or just vent. It’s a complete no judgment zone, and I love that.

What are three words or phrases you would use to describe Team Shortlist?

Ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.

What’s your favourite Shortlist value? (Learn more about our values here!)

I think “own it” would be my favorite Shortlist value not only because there is a great self-learning curve involved there but also because it helps me learn from my mistakes & enables me to be better prepared for more dire challenges in the future.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Read 📖, plan a spontaneous solo trip or veg out in front of Netflix. 📺

And of course, spend time with my cat 🙂 #catmomforever.

With her cat Niku

What are you currently reading, watching, or listening to?

The last book I read and really liked was “Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro. Whoever hasn’t heard of him should definitely check his work out.

As far as the music goes, I’m good with anything except EDM – I don’t understand that genre on a fundamental level. 🙄

Why is the Shortlist mission important to you?

What I like about our mission is that we don’t superficially assess someone’s skills or potential. The whole idea of sharing resumes in bulk is obsolete, especially in this day and age where a person’s success isn’t measured by just a degree or designation. It is actually their contribution to their role, and the value add to an organization, both tangible and intangible. We at Shortlist try to measure all these aspects to match the right person to the right job and vice- versa.

We like to give high fives to recognise when our team members do something awesome. Now is your chance to make a public high five to a fellow Shortlister:

A shoutout to all my fellow Shortlisters, especially the leadership team – the OG gang! But I would specifically like to give a shoutout to my manager Ashbira, who has always had my back.

Operations Team Mumbai

Super fun, super supportive Operations team, Mumbai

Any final words?

I am having a lot of fun in my innings as a Shortlister. I feel that a work environment like this will always push me to evolve, do better and give me the confidence to question processes and new ideas wherever I go.

What I love about Shortlist is that no opinion or suggestion is wrong or futile. Every individual here has a voice. There is a natural sense of understanding amongst the team-something you don’t come across that often in an organization.

I am looking forward to what this journey brings next.

Thank you, Apoorva! We’re so glad to hear your experiences on Team Shortlist.

Niranjan Pujari

Shortlister Spotlight: Meet Niranjan Pujari, Senior Lead Engineer

2430 2349 Shortlist

At Shortlist, we love building our team almost as much as we love building yours!

We have some pretty amazing people across our three offices who have a real passion for what they do and for the Shortlist mission.

The next instalment of Shortlister Spotlights (a Q&A series to get to know some of our team members) stars Niranjan Pujari, the Senior Lead Engineer from Hyderabad office!

A keen book lover and a history buff, he enjoys the challenge of solving problems and designing applications. Though he aspired to be an agriculturist the thrill of complex problem solving brought him to computer science and consequently to Shortlist and he has become an invaluable part of our team.

Read on to know about his Shortlist journey!

Hi Niranjan! Tell us about your life at Shortlist.

Currently, I am working as a senior lead engineer here at Shortlist.

I joined the team back in 2015 as an off-shore consultant and then moved to Hyderabad as a full-time employee in June 2016. My job involves designing an application, trying new technologies to solve problems, architectural decisions. It is a pretty challenging and interesting role for me, as I have to put on all my thinking hats to come up with innovative solutions for challenges while designing application. That is what makes my life here very adventurous. 😀

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Growing up my dreams kept changing. At one point, I wanted to be a lawyer while at another, I wanted to be a cricketer. After finishing off my schooling, I wanted to be an agriculturist but I ended up as a software professional!

So what led you to a career in technology, and what were you looking for in your next career step when you found Shortlist?

As I mentioned earlier I wanted to be an agriculturist, but fate had some other plans! I did not get admission in agriculture college but ended up into a computer science course instead. That’s how my tech journey started and it never stopped.

I used to wonder what would give me that kick, drive me and then I realized it is the complex problem solving that gets me excited and drives me in my work. Shortlist came as a perfect opportunity, there was no thinking there for me. I simply jumped in!

How has your current role impacted you?

It’s not just my current role, my entire tenure at Shortlist has shaped me and been a great journey. As a team, we come across new challenges every day and this gives us opportunities to apply ourselves and brainstorm. It is the whole process- exchange of ideas, perspectives that makes you a different person altogether.

What’s your professional superpower?

I have two- analytical thinking and logical reasoning. 😎

What’s your favourite Shortlist memory?

There are so many of them, it is difficult to pick one. For me, the one which tops the list would be the India team retreat at Lonavala. It gave us the chance to interact with the broader Shortlist team including the leadership. Spending time with them, participating in team-building activities was an amazing experience.

And not to forget, Shortlist Premier League was one of the highlights of this retreat.

Niranjan & our CEO Paul in a discussion at the retreat

What are three words or phrases you would use to describe Team Shortlist?

Awesome, awesome and awesome. 😎

What’s your favourite Shortlist value? (Learn more about our values here!)

I find all our values to be very well-thought-out and super relevant in daily life. But if I have to pick a favourite I would choose “Find the adventure”. Life can get boring with routine and monotony, making it difficult to stay motivated. However, when you start finding adventure in your routine, it becomes interesting. I find motivation in my work every day at Shortlist.

Why is the Shortlist mission important to you?

Having experienced the difficulties earlier in finding the exact type of job that fits my personality first hand, Shortlist’s mission of bridging the gap between candidates & opportunities is important and resonates with me.

So Niranjan, tell us about your life outside of work?

Outside of work, I love reading books and enjoy watching movies. History, in particular, fascinates me, I look at it as a means of satisfying my curiosity. Other than that, Netflix is my latest crush these days. 😍

We like to give high fives to recognise when our team members do something awesome. Now is your chance to make a public high five to a fellow Shortlister:

There are quite a few people without whom my journey in Shortlist would have been very different. So here it goes:

Firstly, I would like to give a bigggggg high-five to our CTO Sudheer. I have known him for the last 7-8 years, way before Shortlist was founded. He is the kind of guy everyone wants to work with- be it as a colleague, as a manager or as a friend. If it were not for him, I would have never been a part of this great place.

The second person on my list would be my teammate Tilak, who has been there for me since the beginning and has been super supportive.

Thirdly, I would like to give a high five to our CEO Paul for his continuous and unconditional support to the tech team.

Tech Team, Hyderabad

Any final words?

This has been a great journey so far as Shortlister and I am enjoying every bit of this.

Thank you, Niranjan! We’re so glad to have you on Team Shortlist.

Director of Operations & Client Success for Shortlist

Shortlister Spotlight: Meet Shriya Gera, Director of Operations & Client Success

3872 2592 Shortlist

At Shortlist, we love building our team almost as much as we love building yours!

We have some pretty amazing people across our three offices who have a real passion for what they do and for the Shortlist mission.

In Shortlister Spotlights (a Q&A series to get to know some of our team members) this week meet Shriya Gera, our Director of Operations & Client Success from Mumbai office!

A true-blue Shortlister, she started her career here in talent acquisition and has climbed the ladder with her passion and hard work. She is a self-professed nerd, identifies with cats as her spirit animal and is an avid sports buff.

Read on to know about her journey at Shortlist and more!

Hi Shriya! Tell us about your life at Shortlist.

Hi there! I’ve been at Shortlist for a little over two years now. My favourite part about the journey here is that my role has evolved with each passing year.

I started off as a Talent  Consultant, where the major part of my role was talent acquisition i.e. executing on some very exciting searches. The next year, I transitioned into a Project Manager role where in addition to my previous responsibilities, I was also leading a team and was looking into key account management.

In my third year, I am now heading the Operations function for India ensuring excellence in client servicing, efficient and streamlined processes and executing strategic projects.

What’s great is that all of this is only scratching the surface – at Shortlist, you have the opportunity to create and run with your own ideas! 🙂

What is your professional background, and what were you looking for in your next career step when you found Shortlist?

I hold an MBA in Human Resources from NMIMS, Mumbai. In my final year, I was looking out for an opportunity in talent acquisition, but, in a non-traditional or a new age organisation that was changing or looking to change the way talent is matched with the right opportunity.

How has your current role impacted you?

One of the best things about working at Shortlist is that it allows you to bring your whole self to work. Being completely authentic has helped me view traits like introversion and a quiet temperament (traits that had often been called out as areas of development for me in the past) as my biggest strengths and leverage them as opposed to view them as a hurdle.

The role also pushes me outside of my comfort zone; every time I have been entrusted with a task I thought I wouldn’t be able to do, I have learnt and surprised myself the most.

As the Director of Operations, what would you say is your personal approach to leadership?

I don’t think I have “cracked the code” to being a good leader, but I constantly try to learn and adapt to different people and situations.

A couple of things that work well for me in the Shortlist context are empowering every team member to make their own decisions and ensuring that everyone is provided with equal opportunities.

What’s your professional superpower?

I listen!

What’s your favourite Shortlist memory?

Honestly, it’s hard to pick one – right from closing my first role or the hardest role, the first client appreciation email to games nights and the staff retreat – I’ve had some of my happiest and most overwhelming days here. However, the one that I cherish the most is my experience as a candidate at Shortlist. I enjoyed the process as  I could be 100% authentic and felt like I belonged. I also really loved working on the case study (#nerdalert 😀)…that one evening spent in eager anticipation for the result reassured me that this is something I really wanted.

Fun fact – a bird pooped on my head the evening I was restlessly waiting for the results after my final round. (As per a common superstition, it is believed that if a bird poops on one’s head, it means that good things are coming one’s way)…a sign from God? I think yes!

What are three words or phrases you would use to describe Team Shortlist?

Forward-thinking, dynamic, camaraderie

Shortlist Mumbai Team

Team Shortlist Mumbai

What’s your favourite Shortlist value? (Learn more about our values here!)

It definitely has to be  “Act with Intention.” It resonates with my work style (or the work styles of introverts, largely) as I tend to observe, reflect, question and then act. If you work closely with me, you’ll hear me make references to it every now and then.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I absolutely love playing games and sports and I am rather enthusiastic about it.  I’m as excited about a game of basketball, football or cricket as I am for games like Taboo, Pictionary, Monopoly Deal and Sudoku.

Other than that, you’ll find me catching up on the latest movies, going for dance workshops and attending the latest stand up comedy show in the city.

What is your spirit animal?

I’m one hundred per cent sure that I’d be a great culture fit in the world of cats – their curiosity, independence, calmness and deep connection with oneself all resonate with me.

We like to give high fives to recognise when our team members do something awesome. Now is your chance to make a public high five to a fellow Shortlister, Shriya 🙂 :

The first one has to be for my go-to person at work – Lotika, who has played a huge role in my learning and growth at Shortlist. She constantly pushes me to be better and get outside of my comfort zone.

The second one is for Mridvika. Although she has a million things on her plate, she always takes the time to notice the little things. She finds a thoughtful way to recognise efforts and wins – for each and every person on the team.

Finally,  one for Paul, for being such a charismatic and humble leader. He has this ability to inspire a group of people by creating a shared vision and encouraging action. Also, his sense of humour and witty comments are the best.

Any final words?

Recruitment or talent acquisition is sadly not an aspirational role for quite a large population in India. This stems from an extremely myopic opinion that recruiters are primarily CV suppliers.

However, the role of a person in talent acquisition – especially in an organisation like Shortlist – is extremely dynamic. You get to learn from and interact with leaders, entrepreneurs and young professionals from across different walks of life and build a great professional network. You’re simultaneously working on multiple and diverse projects and making it interesting by using a cool tech product. Most importantly, you get the opportunity to make an impact by helping build a great team for an organisation that can amplify their growth, or help a candidate land their dream job!

Thank you, Shriya! We’re so lucky to have you on Team Shortlist.

Shortlister Spotlight: Meet Mehndi Shivdasani, Talent Advisor, Shortlist Search

600 589 Shortlist

At Shortlist, we love building our team almost as much as we love building yours!

We have some pretty amazing people across our three offices who have a real passion for what they do and for the Shortlist mission.

The Mehndi Project

The next chapter of our Shortlister Spotlights features Mehndi Shivdasani, a talent advisor for our Shortlist search team based out of Mumbai. Besides channeling her inner Sherlock to hire high-potential talent for senior positions, Mehndi runs a blog on sustainable living called Conscious Chokri. Our environmentally-aware Shortlister shared some quirky anecdotes about her journey through life and more!

Tell us about your life at Shortlist

I am a Talent Advisor in the Shortlist search team. We help our clients (social enterprises, non-profit, SMEs and start-ups amongst others) recruit leading talent for senior-level leadership positions within their organisations. Last year we helped 14 different organisations across India and Kenya hire some tremendous leadership talent across different jobs ranging from CEOs to VPs of various departments, a feat I’m very proud of 🙂

How has your current role impacted you?

Playing adviser to board members and senior leaders of so many diverse and high-impact organisations is a rare opportunity. It’s given me insight into how different organisations are set up, how they identify priorities and develop strategies, services, and products. Directly interacting with high-achieving entrepreneurs and picking up a thing or two from them on how to operate efficiently and be resilient and focused is helping to shape me into a better working professional.

I’m also slowly building up a strong network within the social impact space that I hope to leverage going forward in my career 😉

Team Shortlist India

I’ve also made some fantastic friends! Interacting and working with an ambitious, efficient and warm team like ours inspires me to strive for better every single day.

What is your professional background and what made you join Shortlist?

I have a few years of experience in recruitment and talent management, and also hold a Masters in Social Entrepreneurship from Macquarie Graduate School of Management in Sydney, Australia.

I started looking out for my next job opportunity towards the end of 2017 and envisioned joining a social enterprise or a non-profit. I heard about Shortlist through my then-acquaintance, now close friend and fellow Shortlister, Pranay Merchant. I was looking to take on a role that would enable me to create some form of social impact, push me to pick up some new skills while building on my existing skills and areas of interest such as building high-value relationships with people.

What’s your professional superpower?

Over-communicating with people! I find that most of us are almost always distracted with so many things — emails, texts, calls etc. — so over-communicating my thoughts and ideas helps to make sure my communication is clear and consistent.

I’m also a master listener so if you need to vent about something, I’m your person!

What’s your favourite Shortlist memory?

I’ll always cherish the time I spent in Kenya with our team and meeting clients there. Also, almost every Pulse Check and team gathering is memorable in its own way.

Mehndi with Team Shortlist Kenya

What are three words you would use to describe Team Shortlist?

Fun! Supportive! Determined!

What’s your favourite Shortlist value and why?

I LOVE all of our values as they all hit home. If I have to pick one, I’d say that One Team is my favourite value. I admire how everyone on the team is always rooting for each other across offices and countries. We love sharing the credit for all of our wins, big and small, and don’t shy away from giving each other feedback. All of these reasons combined make me proud about being a Shortlister.

‘Conscious Chokri’ is one with nature!

Why is the Shortlist mission important to you?

Being able to offer organisations a platform to find the right people to join their teams and scale their work is immense! In a world where we’re trying to automate almost everything in life, our effort to blend the use of technology with a human touch to unlock professional potential is super relevant!

Anything else you want the world to know about you, Shortlist, our team?

Working at Shortlist is rewarding on so many levels! I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with.

So Conscious Chokri, tell us about your life outside of Shortlist

I run a blog on low-waste living called Conscious ChokriUsing this blog, I’m trying to create awareness about the global waste crisis and encourage people to reduce the amount of waste they generate by making long-term yet convenient changes to their lives. I also deliver workshops for school and college students on this topic. I try to spend some of my time volunteering at beach cleanups and urban farms in the city as well.

And then there’s spending time with family and friends while gorging on some yummy food and cocktails 🙂

As you know, we like to give “high-fives” to recognize when our team members do something awesome. Now is your chance to make a public high five to a fellow Shortlister:

Shortlister Spotlight: Meet Brenda, Applicant Care Associate

1200 800 Shortlist

At Shortlist, we love building our team almost as much as we love building yours! We have some pretty amazing people across our three offices who have a real passion for what they do and for the Shortlist mission.

Today’s installment of Shortlister Spotlights (a Q&A series to get to know some of our team members) stars Brenda, an Applicant Care Associate in our Kenya office!

Who is Brenda? When not at work, she’s probably in between classes, catching up with friends and family or on some of her favourite series, trying out a new recipe that involves pasta or getting some much needed shut eye! She also likes to make the most use of her commute time reading articles on Medium or a book on her current reading list. Basically embodying one of our favourite Shortlist values, Be a Whole Person.

A fashionista, party-animal or a foodie? Read on to find more about the face behind #CandidateLove!

Hi Brenda! Tell us about what you do at Shortlist:

My role involves working with candidates. Excellent candidate experience is our top priority and as such my role revolves around getting them through their applications by providing information that pertains to the roles we are recruiting for. In addition to that, I also educate both current and potential applicants on how the Shortlist process works as well as ensure that they get feedback on their applications promptly.

I also create content for our candidate blog series where we discuss different issues affecting job seekers and give guidelines on how candidates can get their dream job! Recently, we kicked off a candidates engagement series where we seek to establish deeper interactions with professionals in different fields through training and networking events.

What is your professional background, and what were you looking for in your next career step when you found Shortlist?

Before Shortlist, I was in Sales which involved customer acquisition and education. I then moved to Customer Service which was more of a support role, offering aftersales services and upselling and cross-selling products to existing customers.

When I found Shortlist, I was looking for an opportunity to take on more a challenging role in terms of the scope of responsibilities and expand my knowledge in customer experience. In addition to that, I wanted to be in a space that offers opportunities for both personal and professional growth and development.

What’s your professional superpower?

Empathy.

What’s your favourite Shortlist value and why? (Check out our values here)

Being a whole person: Ever since I joined Shortlist I feel like I’m well on my way to becoming one! As a part-time student and also working full time, it can be difficult to manage both without feeling like one end is falling off your plate. I am fortunate enough to be at Shortlist where we are constantly encouraged to be more than your job.

Because of this, I’ve tried out a couple of new things — for example, I started writing and learnt new skills in digital marketing through managing our candidate social media engagements. I have also been able to have a bit more time for friends and family thanks to the occasional flexibility that my job gives me — I’m now able to plan on when to get my work done and dedicate time to other activities.

What are the three words you would use to describe Team Shortlist?

Brilliant! Upbeat! Industrious!

Brenda also loves fashion!

What’s your favourite Shortlist memory?

There’s so much that happens on a day to day, and I make memories at Shortlist every day! My favourite so far has to be my first week at Shortlist; Aside from the warm welcome, we were kick-starting a major project, and everyone was nervous about how it was going to turn out. We were about nine team members in Shortlist (Kenya office) at the time and having each one of us embody the team spirit played a part in ensuring that the project was a success. The commitment and collaboration did enhance Shortlist One Team value way before it was even made official.

Why is the Shortlist mission important to you?

Helping candidates unlock their potential is important. Shortlist brings a new way into the recruitment process and especially how we treat candidates as we try and bring dignity back into the recruitment. On a personal level, I went through the process and felt the Shortlist difference so helping others through the same and having them feel comfortable and confident in the process is of utmost importance.

As you know, we like to give “high-fives” to recognise when our team members do something awesome. Now is your chance to make a public high five to a fellow Shortlister:

Edinah: Willing to help and always happy!! Literally, it’s contagious!

Olivia: I can’t think of a time I have approached her with questions on anything communications and content related or regarding my role with somewhat difficult responses, that she has not graciously come to my rescue!

Alvin: Ever so generous with his knowledge and experience. I think we have all benefited from Alvin’s expertise both at a professional and personal level.

Mercy: Life of the house for sure! A great listener too.

Ceverene: It’s such a pleasure to work with her; she’s very detail oriented and ensures she gets things done down to the last T.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Girl time is always fun time!

Hanging out with family and friends. This is usually my way of getting out of my head (introverts will understand).

I try and workout whenever I can, and I prefer outdoor activities/workouts. I run every weekend and try to squeeze in 15 minutes for an at-home workout. I find YouTube videos helpful for this. I also have a BBG guide which my colleague Olivia shared with me sometime back and a Shawn T guide for more intensive training.

I am trying to make reading a habit, and so I read a lot more lately. I am currently reading, Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn by John C Maxwell. The book gives insight into why we should not focus so much on our loses and always see these as an opportunity to gain some new perspective and make better decisions. It also paints a clear picture of the damage we can do to ourselves when we fail to learn from our failures or if we allow ourselves to remain defeated.

Have some alone time — I am a natural introvert, but I can be an extrovert occasionally. Hence, I do appreciate time to sit down, organise my thoughts and recharge before taking on a new project.

I also love to listen to music, and a Techno/EDM playlist is always my go-to when I feel myself getting sluggish.

Sleep! My job takes a lot of my mental energy and juggling both work, and school really drains me. This helps me to reboot.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I’ve never been one of those people who’ve always wanted to be one thing in life. I have had moments where I could switch up… I remember I wanted to be a musician at one point. My Mother freaked out when I told her this and insisted I study Business instead. When I was in high school, I wanted to be a doctor, thanks to my love for Biology. Then I grew up, and I just could never see myself working in bloody environments or practising on dead bodies.

I have also wanted to be an Architect like my Father — not sure what happened to this one. Last and currently on my list is a Psychologist. I love helping people and giving advice, and I believe I will get around to doing this at some point in my life. 😊

Tell us about a candidate that inspired you?

I’m always inspired by candidates, working with them every day. I admire their determination to keep going and try again even after a setback. I have encountered an applicant who has been declined for positions seven times and kept on trying until she was finally hired for the eighth role she applied to. The resilience and the determination to not give up despite many failed attempts really inspired me.

Another example is a candidate who has attended each training since we started candidate engagement events. What was inspiring about this is the effort he made towards his professional development by taking the time to attend training consistently to upskill himself.

What surprised you about working at Shortlist/ how is Shortlist different than other companies?

Shortlist has a dedicated leadership team keen to help each team member achieve their highest potential. It also offers a challenging environment where you get opportunities to try your hand at different things and learn new skills.

What are you currently reading, watching, or listening to?

Reading Sometimes you win; sometimes you learn by John C Maxwell, watching Dynasty, Star and HTGAWM, and listening to… really depends on my mood or vibe.

Meet Brenda’s bestie, Mimi

Do you have a favourite quote or saying?

My inspirational quote is If I use all I’ve got, God will be all that I’m not! — A reminder to always work your potential, put your best foot forward and believe that you will eventually get to where you want to be!

What is that place in the world you’ve not visited yet but would love to?

Italy! The country of amazing fashion, art and of course PASTA!🍝

Which two individuals, living or dead, would you love to sit next to during your flight back from the above destination?

Trevor Noah — who wouldn’t want to laugh all the way back? — and Ayodeji Awosika — he’s an amazing writer.

Final words?
